Industrial visit at Solar Thermal Power Plant, Shive

Department of Mechanical has organized two days Industrial visit for the students of final year BE (Mechanical Engineering) to Solar Thermal Power Plant, Shive located near Talegaon, Pune on 07/02/2020 & 08/02/2020.

The village, situated about 50 kilometers from Pune in the rural hinterland of Khed taluka with a population of 1500, is the first one selected by the Union Science and Technology Ministry where a solar thermal power plant is slated to come up. Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State for Science and Technology, laid the foundation stone of the plant. The project is being funded by the Science and Technology Ministry while the design, development and the technical knowhow has been given by Thermax Limited. Villagers of Shive have given their land for the project. So, in effect it is a public private initiative. The power plant is built on three acres of land in Shive village near Bhama Askhed dam. The project would cost Rs 14.9 crore, out of which the ministry had given Rs 13.01 crore while Thermax have spent Rs 1.78 crore. The electricity would cater to the needs of 1500 Shive villagers. The problems of electricity shortage in Shive and many other villages became acute after the state government started the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s Talegaon Industrial Estate without building any adequate power infrastructure.
