As part of the Computer Aided Design of Electrical Machine course, we visited Hindustan Electric Motors Ltd. Company on 05/04/2025 located at Bagwada District- Valsad, State- Gujarat. The purpose of this visit was to gain practical knowledge about the design, construction, manufacturing and testing of various AC motors. During the visit, we accompanied by Mr. Ramesh Aher (Manager), who provided valuable insights and explanations about design of Electrical machines. The visit lasted for 2-3 Hour, during which we had the opportunity to observe the manufacturing and testing of electric motors.

Visiting an electric motor manufacturing company provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and knowledge about  manufacturing of electric motors. During a visit, participants conduct following objectives:

  • Observe the design, construction and manufacturing of electric motors. Learn about the different components of AC Motors.
  • To gain insights into quality control measures.
  • To observe the working of various departments such as production, testing and assembly.
  • Ask questions and interact with experienced personnel to gain a deeper understanding of design, construction and testing of electric motor.

Activities During the Visit

The industrial tour included the following key areas:

  • Raw Material Storage and Handling: We were shown how high-grade copper, aluminum, and steel are used for motor production.
  • Winding Section: Demonstrated the winding process of stator and rotor coils using semi-automatic machines.
  • Assembly Line: We observed how motors are assembled in stages—from fitting bearings to shaft alignment.
  • Testing Lab: Engineers demonstrated motor testing procedures including no-load, load, vibration, and insulation resistance tests.
  • Painting & Finishing: Motors undergo anti-corrosive painting and labeling before dispatch.
  • Interaction Session: Engineers and supervisors explained technical aspects of motor efficiency, design, construction and testing.
