Introduction:
As part of the coursePower System I, we visited a 220kV / 132kV / 22kV substation on 06/01/2026 located at Parvati, Pune 411030. The purpose of this visit was to gain practical knowledge about the various components of a HV/LV transmission substation and their working. During the visit, we accompanied by Mr. Ajay Nalhe Sir (Asst. Executive Engineer), who provided valuable insights and explanations about the substation’s components and functions. The visit lasted for 2-3 Hour, during which we had the opportunity to observe the substation’s layout, equipment, and safety measures.
Need of visit:
Visiting an electrical substation provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and knowledge about the functioning of the equipment and systems within the substation. During a visit, participants conduct following objectives:
- Observe the layout, equipment, and safety measures of the substation, and gain an understanding of how the substation is designed and operated.
- Learn about the different types of equipment within the substation and their functions, including transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.
- Gain insights into the safety practices and procedures followed in the substation to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
- Understand the importance of regular maintenance and testing of substation equipment to ensure reliable and efficient power supply.
